About Avur

We chose to stand our ground.

While the IT industry converted customers’ server parks into subscription IT from American platforms, Avur continued to build and operate its own platforms. It was not popular. It was right.

Avur is not a sales office for other vendors’ products. Avur is a Norwegian technology provider with its own networks, its own platforms and the expertise the industry around us chose to sell off.

The history

From BBS to data centre — Avur has seen it all.

Early 1990s

BBS, modems and Novell NetWare

Avur’s origins start in the BBS community in Bergen — analogue modems, MS-DOS and DesqView for multitasking. Networks based on Novell NetWare and BNC/Coax cabling. International messaging services connecting Bergen with the world. Fidonet. Voluntary paying members. A time when you built everything yourself because nobody else had done it before.
1993

First web server

Mosaic browser. Avur’s first web server. Star networks based on 3Com hubs. The internet was not a product you bought — it was something you built.
Mid-1990s

Switching and shipping digitalisation

Switching replaces hubs. Advanced internet routing takes shape. In business, integration with Telex cards on the ISA bus in x86 hardware marks an important era — the digitalisation of the shipping market in Bergen happens from here.
2000s

IT services from own data centres

Avur delivers IT services from its own data centres. What the industry today calls cloud was already everyday life for Avur’s customers.
Today

Casperkollen

5 countries. Own AS number. 14+ IX connections. 15.5 ms to Amsterdam. Norwegian ownership at every level. The same core principle as always: build it yourself, do it right, take responsibility.
Who Avur is

Let us be clear.

What Avur is not

  • A company that profits from moving customers to other vendors’ platforms
  • Dependent on commissions from international platforms
  • A company that decommissioned its own server parks
  • A corporation with decisions made abroad
  • A company that says one solution fits all
  • A provider that sends you to a call centre
  • An IT company that uses third parties for domains

What Avur is

  • A Norwegian company with Norwegian ownership and Norwegian accountability
  • A network operator with its own AS number and 14+ IX connections
  • A platform provider with defined solutions
  • Approved Norid registrar — domains directly
  • RIPE member and LIR — allocates IP space and ASN
  • A company that recommends the right solution for the customer
  • Real technical depth — built over decades
Avur’s approach

Same technology. Clearer accountability.

Avur delivers what others call cloud — but from its own data centres, with its own fibre network and Norwegian ownership at every level. Avur has been doing this since the 2000s. An IT platform is networking, servers, storage and software. Avur has all these elements in place and combines them into solutions with predictable operations. Avur offers a defined IT platform where the customer is in the driver’s seat — not a platform that changes at the whim of a vendor the customer does not control.
Avur’s customers have had IT services from data centres since the 2000s. That is nothing new. What is new is that someone started calling it cloud.
Infrastructure

Casperkollen. Built to last.

Avur operates Casperkollen in Bergen as its headquarters and data centre — and has a presence with its own BGP routers in Stavanger, Oslo, Stockholm, Amsterdam and London. All locations are connected to Avur’s core network.

Continuous development

Avur never stopped building.

While the industry around us simplified and standardised, Avur continued to develop deeper expertise in networking, infrastructure and operations platforms. This gives Avur’s customers access to solutions that require real technical depth — not just reselling someone else’s products.

Domains · Norid
Domain management
Avur is an approved registrar for Norid and handles .no domains directly. No middleman — Avur does it itself.
RIPE · LIR
IP and network identity
As a RIPE member and Local Internet Registry, Avur allocates IPv4/IPv6 address space and registers ASN. Avur has built this expertise over decades.
Network · Server · VPN
Infrastructure in depth
Avur operates and develops its own network and server infrastructure. This provides a technical depth that makes Avur a real partner — not just a supplier.
Avur Business ASP
Defined office platform
Microsoft Office on Avur’s own servers, without dependency on third-party platforms. Avur has delivered and evolved this since the 2000s.
Colocation
Casperkollen
Rack space with A+B power, four independent fibre routes and a dedicated transformer on the property. Avur owns and operates the infrastructure itself.
ISP-Operations
Platform for ISPs
Avur develops and operates ISP-Operations as a live ISP in production. This provides a credibility no pure software vendor can match.
For IT companies

Partner — not competitor.

Avur does not compete for the customer relationship. Avur is the infrastructure IT companies build on.

1
Resell rack space
Casperkollen infrastructure is available for IT companies that want to offer colocation to their own customers.
2
Resell lines and connectivity
Avur’s broadband and transit products can be resold.
3
Avur Business ASP for your customers
Offer a defined, managed office platform without building it yourself.
4
Domain management and network identity
Avur handles .no domains and allocates IP space and ASN — available for IT partners.
